NAGA CITY—The Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Naga passed a resolution declaring singer-actress Nora Aunor as honorary Nagueña.

City councilor Gabby Bordado in an interview with BICOL STANDARD said that it was a collective motion by the Sangguniang Panlungsod members that led to its approval.

“This is in recognition of her contributions to the promotion and development of culture and the arts not only in Naga City but also in the entire country,” Bordado said.

The resolution stemmed from a request from Tito Valiente, Director of the Institute of Bikol History and Culture of Ateneo de Naga University.

“Because we see it wise and proper that the City of Naga participate in honoring Ms. Nora Aunor, we are communicating formally this request to grant the artist the Honorary Citizenship of our good city. The social history of Ms. Nora Aunor has always included the city of Naga,” the request reads.

“Coming from the then town of Iriga City, Nora was identified more as the contestant from Naga City that year [when she competed in the Tawag ng Tanghalan amateur singing contest],” the request reads.

“It is but proper that we claim her wonderful roots and proclaim her, with due respect to the land of her birth in the Rinconada area, as our very own,” it added.

A dinner, in which Aunor will be presented the symbolic key to the city, will be held for the actress on March 26.

Aunor, it would be recalled, was nominated for the National Artist Award last year. Her nomination, however, was junked by President Benigno Aquino III.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
