Ligao City blooms during Sunflower Festival

The city of Ligao in Albay is abloom during the six-day celebration of the Sunflower Festival, which spotlights the flamboyant flower that abounds in the area.

The Sunflower Festival is held in conjunction with the thirteenth anniversary of the cityhood of Ligao.

Among the highlights of the festival is a colorful parade of carabaos and goats, which have been decorated in bright and striking costumes.

There is also the Binibining Ligao Beauty Pageant, in which ABS-CBN talent and Ligao native Marin del Rosario, has been invited as a special guest.

The other activities include the launching of the Teen Health Center, Sunflower Photography Workshop, a One-Man Exhibit titled "Kurit Ligao" by Jerick Plopino, free mass eye screening, Farmers' Laro ng Lahi, Living Diorama, 1st Ligao History and Geography Challenge, Paururagan sa Barangay (Talentadong LigaoeƱo), LPG-Seed Exhibit & Agri-Trade Fair, Job Fair, Buntis Class, Opening of City Tourism Office and Pasalubong Center, Coastal Caravan, PWD Mini-Olympic & Wheelchairs Distribution, Laro ng Lahi (City Hall Employees), Inter-TODA Basketball Tournament, Cityhood Anniversary Fun Run 2014, Cityhood Babies' Race, LPG-SEED Exhibit / Agri-Trade Fair, Inauguration of Slaughterhouse and Operation of Mini-Hydro, Parade of Festivals, Sunflower BESTS 2014 Awarding Program, and Cityhood Anniversary Band Concert.

Spearheading the various events are Ligao City Mayor Patricia Gonzalez-Alsua and Albay Third District Representative Fernando Gonzalez.

The Ligao City Sunflower Festival will end on Monday, March 24.
