Albay cops step up drive against 'tupada'

LIGAO CITY (Bicol Standard)--No less than 61 individuals were arrested in the 20 anti-tupada operations of the Albay police in the period covering March 17 to May 19, 2020.

This is a 125% increase from the figure last year, according to the Albay Provincial Police Office.

Daraga yielded the most number of violators, followed by Ligao City, then Polangui.

For this accomplishment, Albay top cop PCol Primitivo C. Bayongan, Jr. thanked netizens and concerned members of the community in what he called modern-day bayanihan and barangayan efforts.

"Dahil po sa inyo, tumaas po ang bilang ng aming apprehensions sa 'tupada' dahil marami po sa inyo ang patuloy na nagbibigay sa amin ng impormasyon through social media at ganun din po, through text message," he said.

"This is proof na malaki po ang tiwala ng mga mamamayan sa Albay Kasurog cops," he remarked.

"Maraming mga mamamayan na gustong iiwas ang karamihan, sa risks posed by 'tupada' dahil malinaw na, bukod sa ipinagbabawal ito sa ilalim ng PD No. 449 as amended by PD 1602, violation din po ito ng social distancing at mass gatherings at maaaring makapagpakalat pang lalo ng COVID-19 pandemic," he explained.

Meantime, he also warned those involved in the illegal activity: "Tupada at pandemya o kaligtasan ng pamilya, mamili ka! Wag po sana nating ilagay sa balag ng alanganin ang buhay natin at ng mga pamilya natin dahil lang sa thrill ng 'tupada' na yan. Itabi na lang po natin ang pera natin para sa pagkain at iba pang pangunahing pangangailangan natin."
