Bicol PNP nabs 2,701 in anti-illegal gambling ops


LEGAZPI CITY -- For the past three quarters covering the period from January-September this year, a total of 1,079 positive illegal gambling operations were conducted on its campaign against any form of illegal gambling.

The PNP was able to apprehend a total of 2,701 persons, the confiscation of P404, 846 worth of money/items, and 787 numbers of cases filed.
 
Police Regional Office 5 led by Police Chief Supt. Atty. Arnel B. Escobal issued a marching order from all Provincial Directors, City Director, Naga CPO down to city and municipal police stations to stride up in pursuit of the campaign against illegal gambling.

The province of Camarines Sur recorded the highest among all the provinces in the Bicol Region with 240 positive police operation, 124,790 estimated value of money/items confiscate and 167 cases filed in court; followed by Albay with 193 positive police operation, 94, 920 estimated value of money/items confiscated , and 140 no of cases filed in court; while in Masbate 173 positive police operations, 37, 829 estimated value of money/items confiscated with 114 cases filed in court; for Sorsogon with 241 positive police operations, 42, 696 estimated value of money/items confiscated with 193 cases filed in court; in Camarines Norte with 153 positive police operations, 48, 075 estimated value of money/items confiscated with 125 cases filed in court ; Catanduanes with 26 positive police operation, 49, 544 estimated value of items money/items confiscated with 35 cases filed in court ; and the last is Naga with 17 positive operation, with 6, 992 estimated value of money/items confiscated and 13 cases filed in court.

From January-September this year a total of 2,701 persons were arrested, wherein Albay recorded 493; 384 in Camarines Norte; 748 in Camarines Sur; 140 in Catanduanes; 301 in Masbate; 578 in Sorsogon; and 57 in Naga City.

The existence of illegal gambling activities has been considered as a social menace for it has become the means for corruption and an influential factor for individual’s disregard for the value of dignified work, perseverance and thrift.

RD Escobal said he will not tolerate the illegal gambling to proliferate in his area of responsibility, and that PRO5 will continue to intensify its Anti-Illegal Gambling Operations in the region.

Likewise, he urges the cooperation and support of the community as well as the collaboration of the different stakeholders to report any form of illegal gambling in their area.
