Bicolano artists rally for biodiversity

NAGA CITY (Bicol Standard) -- Five Bicolano artists from Salingoy Art Group are part of the select group of 100 painters, sculptors, and mixed-media artists whose works are featured at the "Art in Biodiversity" exhibit at Sining Makiling Gallery, DL Umali Hall, University of the Philippines Los Baños.

They are Pancho Piano, Romualdo Rommel Perez, Richard Perez, Dar Buan Encinas and Roderick Imperio.

Their works, which are of a wide range of mediums, styles, and techniques, hinge on conservation as the raison d’être of biodiversity.

Highlighted are flora and fauna that are rather peculiar in the country and the Southeast Asian region.

The artists’ pieces are a tapestry of visual communication, and viewers decode their meanings in more ways one could possibly imagine.

The organizers of the exhibit earlier announced that they hope the exhibit would succeed not only in creating a platform for the celebration of biodiversity, but also in stirring public consciousness on its endangerment.

“Art in Biodiversity” runs until December 2018.

Salingoy Art Group is an organization of over twenty visual artists from the Bicol region dedicated to promoting arts and culture within and outside of the region.

The group was founded in 2011 by internationally-renowned artist Pancho Piano. (With additional report from JRYapo)
