NAGA CITY 12/5/16 (Bicol Standard)—No less than 27 persons have succumbed to the series of brutal killings in the agricultural town of Libon allegedly brought about by the terroristic activities perpetrated by the dreaded Concepcion Gang.
The latest victim, who died yesterday at 4 p.m, was identified as Gilbert Misambique, an incumbent barangay councilor of Bonbon, Libon.
Police records show that the feared gang members have been allegedly active in illegal activities from extortion to the illegal drug trade to cold-blooded murder. This has produced a chilling effect upon probable witnesses who may testify against their operation.
Over the weekend, Bicol PNP Chief Supt. Melvin Buenafe told the Bicol Standard that a composite team of the police and the army will be assigned to man checkpoints to assure the residents of their security.
It will be recalled that Gilbert Concepcion, the gang leader, was implicated in the murder of Makati City Engr. Nelson Morales and several other.
He is also tagged as responsible for the death of his own father and the rape of a cousin, apart from the strings of killing incidents that have been recorded in the police blotter since 2013.
At present, reward money amounting to P3.5-million is said to be up for grabs for anybody who can give information as to his whereabouts.
For his part, Libon Mayor Wilfredo Maronilla during the latest Peace and Order Council Meeting called upon his constituents to rally behind him in containing the ongoing criminality.
He also mentioned that a resolution requesting the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption, through its chairman Dante Jimenez to help in raising funds to be paid to the informer who could aid in spotting Concepcion.
Chief Supt. Buenafe, on the other hand, echoed the same views that the support of the residents is earnestly needed to address the problem.
He warned that Gilbert Concepcion and his gang are heavily armed and dangerous.
Government operatives will not take this issue sitting down, Buenafe added.
