Bicol PNP lauded for highest performance rating in Double Barrel Alpha

LEGAZPI CITY— Philippine National Police Chief Ronald dela Rosa has given a commendation award to the Police Regional Office in Bicol (PRO5) for obtaining the highest performance rating in the nationwide implementation of Double Barrel Alpha, the government’s intensified campaign against illegal drugs, from Nov. 26 to Dec. 7, a top official of PRO5 said Saturday.

Sr. Supt. Ma. Luisa Calubaquib, PRO5 spokesperson, said PRO5 under Chief Supt. Melvin Ramon Buenafe got the “highest percentage accomplishment of 216 percent that surpassed the target in the accounting of the drug personalities” in the anti-illegal drug campaign from Nov. 26 to Dec. 7.

She said the citation read that the performance of PRO5 had “significantly contributed a lot to the attainment of a drug free Philippines."

The certificate of commendation was awarded to PRO5 by Director Benjamin Magalong, chairman of the national oversight committee of the National Task Force on Illegal Drugs and chief of operations of the Technical Directorate of the PNP.

Calubaquib said Senior Supt. Petronelli Baldebrin, deputy regional director for operations of PR05 based here in Camp Simeon Ola, received the award during a command conference at the main Conference room of Camp Crame in Quezon City last Dec. 8.

She said the Albay Provincial Police Office (PPO) under Sr. Supt. Antonino Cirujales topped the provincial level with 10,663 drug surrenderers (10,023 users, 640 pushers), 37 arrested and 5 killed.

Cirujales has set a target of 5 arrests/surrenderers of drug personalities per day to his 18 chiefs of police.

Calubaquib said from Nov. 26 to Dec. 7, PRO5 had recorded 33,510 drug surrenderers in the Bicol region (31,420 users; 2,090 pushers), arrested 155 drug pushers and killed 9 persons in buy-bust operations, and recovered 481 plastic sachets of shabu, 16 plastic sachets of marijuana and 20 firearms.

She said PRO5 made it to the top again because of the concerted efforts made by all units in the field under the leadership of Buenafe. (PNA)
