Bicol activist hits LGU Sipocot on housefly infestation

NAGA CITY 12/3/16 (Bicol Standard) — Vince Casilihan, a popular activist in the region, is now up in arms, not against erring government officials or abusive police and military personnel, but this time against houseflies.

Said insects, Casilihan said, have been pestering residents of Calagbangan North, Calagbangan South, Villazar, Vigaan, and Bolo Norte, Sipocot, Camarines Sur.

This is due to the increase of poultry and piggery farms in said area, he noted.

“Flies, everybody knows, are carriers of disease,” Casilihan said.

In a Facebook post, he chided local government and health officials, headed by Mayor Ogie Astor for ignoring the continuing problem.

Residents claim that they have repeatedly called the attention of their leaders, but it has fallen on deaf ears.

Said residents have taken the issue to social media in the hope of awakening their leaders to immediately come to their rescue.

“May namatay nang bata sa Bolo Norte dahil sa diarrhea dulot ng pesteng langaw,” Casilihan said.

"Kumakain na nga siya sa loob ng kulambo," he added

“Dito, kahit mainit pa ang kape, dinadapuan na ng langaw,” he added.

Earlier this week, Mayor Astor visited Casilihan’s residence to personally see for himself the magnitude of the problem.

Casilihan told the Bicol Standard that Mayor Astor promised not to renew the business permits of the piggery and poultry farms which could not comply with the sanitary requirements.
