DILG launches community-based anti-drug campaign in Cam Sur

PILI, Camarines Sur 11/25/16 (Bicol Standard) -- The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has intensified the campaign against the proliferation of illegal drugs, with Sec. Ismael "Mike" Sueno taking the lead.

At least 3,000 barangay officials from across the region converged to join Sueno at the Camarines Sur Convention Complex here this morning for the province-wide launch of the MASA MASID (Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Anomalya, Mamamayang Ayaw Sa Iligal na Droga) Program.

MASA MASID, a community-based program for the prevention of corruption, illegal drugs and criminality in barangays, is envisioned to unite different organizations in creating safer and drug-free communities in the country.

Under DILG Memorandum Circular 2016-116, the program has four main thrusts: information and education campaign in communities for government programs against corruption, illegal drugs and criminality; creation of a reporting mechanism on illegal drugs-related activities; formulation of community-based rehabilitation programs; and revive the spirit of volunteerism by creating a volunteer-friendly atmosphere for organizations that wishes to be partners for change.
