Mrs. Sherry Tuy-Penas, Senior Education Program Specialist for Human Resource Development told the BICOL STANDARD that the program will start at 8:30 a.m. for the mass.

During the program proper, the awarding of the winners for the Search for Outstanding Teachers will follow.

Other activities lined up for the event include Teachers Got Talent and a raffle draw.

The celebration is from September 5 to October 5, but they decided to move the activity to October 7 to avoid disruption of classes.

Meantime, Education Secretary Leonor Briones expressed her sincere gratitude for teachers’ unwavering commitment to and service in strengthening the community and building the nation by enhancing the learning capabilities and protecting the welfare of learners.

“Being a teacher in itself is already a tremendous job. Teaching with unwavering commitment despite the odds is a true service to the country,” Briones said.

The National Teachers' Month celebration carries the theme Guro: Kabalikat sa Pagbabago, to acknowledge and emphasize the crucial role and value of teachers in the Philippine society.

Aside from being a time to pay tribute to educators, the National Teachers’ Month is an occasion to build the image of teaching as an attractive and fulfilling profession, and to generate widespread support and assistance for teachers.
