Sen. de Lima ousted as Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights chair

MANILA, September 19, 2016 (Bicol Standard) -- The chairmanship as well the entire membership of the Senate Committee on Justice and Human Rights was declared vacant upon motion of Sen. Manny Pacquiao during the session this afternoon.

Sixteen voted in favor, four against, and two abstained.

Meanwhile, Senate President pro tempore Vicente "Tito" Sotto nominated Senator Richard Gordon as chair and Sen. Panfilo Lacson as vice-chair.

It will be recalled that last week, a heated discussion ensued during the Committee on Justice Hearing when Committee on Justice chairman Leila de Lima presented Edgar Matobato as a witness to the hearing that tackles extra-judicial killings in the country.

De Lima walked out during the session earlier today.
