This was announced yesterday by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) during the Senate hearing yesterday of the agency’s proposed budget for 2017.
DOTr officials said that it would be impossible to address the backlog on car plates and driver’s license cards this year due to the pending legal issues.
In the same hearing, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said that they can only proceed with the production of cards the moment the court lifts the injunction order.
Meanwhile, DOTr officials clarified that they need more time to resolve the car plates backlog, which is now around 6.6 million as of July, this year.
It will be recalled that the Commission on Audit (COA) has issued a notice of disallowance on the LTO’s contract that resulted in the shortage of car plates.
