More benefits for OFWs announced

MANILA September 15, 2016 (Bicol Standard) The Philippine Overseas and Employment Administration (POEA) has approved a memorandum circular which exempts Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from paying travel tax as well as securing overseas employment certificate (OEC) and paying POEA processing fee.

This memo circular applies to OFWs who are returning to their jobs.

This new policy is in line with the government’s efforts to streamline the processing of OFWs documents.

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) also said that Filipino household service workers (HSWs) and other OFWs abroad could expect better protection as the International Labor Organization (ILO) has adopted the Fair Recruitment Principles and Operational Guidelines during the Tripartite Meeting of Experts in Geneva, Switzerland last week.
