LRay slams Sandiganbayan suspension order, calls it "absurd"

NAGA CITY, September 14, 2016 (Bicol Standard) – Congressman and former Camarines Sur governor LRay Villafuerte called the Sandiganbayan order to the House leadership to implement his suspension “absurd.”

“It was ostensibly done to ensure that I would not influence the investigation into the charges filed against me when I was still governor,” Villafuerte said in an interview with the Manila Standard.

Villafuerte was referring to the 90-day suspension order meted by the Sandiganbayan over a pending criminal complaint being tried by the graft court.

He is facing a graft charge for the anomalous 20-million peso petroleum purchase without following the law on public bidding.

It was filed by Carlo Batalla, the Secretary General of Citizens Crime Watch.

“How could I have any influence left in my former office when I am no longer the governor? Where is the logic in that?” he added.

LRay Villafuerte is the father of the incumbent governor Miguel “Migz” Villafuerte.
