LOOK: Penafrancia feast in Virac, Catanduanes

VIRAC, Catanduanes, September 7, 2016 (Bicol Standard) -- Far different from the fluvial procession one witnesses in Naga City is the maritime procession held at Barangay Francia here to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Penafrancia.

In the maritime procession, the image of Ina is paraded on the water in a motorized banca near the coastline along Imelda Boulevard.

Devotees in other bancas also join the procession.

Meanwhile, a group of musicians stationed at the boulevard serenade the patroness.

The procession is held a week before the actual feast because the clergy flock to Naga City on said date to attend the fiesta celebration there.

Bishop Manolo Delos Santos of the Diocese of Virac led the activity, while security was provided by the Philippine Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, Red Cross, and communication groups.
