A resident of Iloilo, Diaz is an alleged close associate of "Jaguar," who is purportedly one of the top drug lords in the Philippines.

Diaz, who allegedly postures as a bigtime investor here, was apprehended by joint operatives while he was at Subic Saday Beach Resort at Barangay Calintaan here.

Acting Provincial Director at the Sorsogon Provincial Police Office PSSupt. Ronaldo R. Cabral said that initially, the arresting officers received information that several armed men were present at the beach resort.

They thus proceeded to the site, where they spotted said group of armed men.

Found in their possession were the following items: four M16 rifles with SNs VS226393, VS362085, VS362073 and PO0077; two caliber 45 Colt with SNs 2790129 and 2778945; two caliber 45 Taurus with SNs NFM 22677 and NFM 22658; two caliber 45 with SNs 2785130 and 55801265; 14 pieces magazine for M16 rifle (12 long and 2 short); 14 pieces magazine for caliber 45 (9 with 8 rounds and 5 with 12 rounds); 351 pcs ammunition for M16 rifle; and 117 pieces of ammunition for caliber 45.

When asked to present their identification, only six of the seven were able to do so. They were Sandy Odicta (the leader of the group), Raul Relojas; Rodolfo Abapo, Jr; Elmer Labay; Charlice Ganosa; and Nino Carlo Paraiso.

They claimed they were they were escorting a Very Important Person (VIP) as part of the Witness Protection Program Intelligence Service Operations Group (WPP ISOG).

The seventh, meanwhile, who initially tried to elude arrest by running towards a grassy portion, failed to present a valid ID.

When he was prevailed upon and interrogated, however, he confessed that he is Reynaldo Diaz, also known as James Tan, the subject of several warrants of arrest, including two for Frustrated Murder, and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

Meanwhile, the six alleged DOJ personnel were apprehended for violation of R.A. 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act).

During the follow-up operations, former Municipal Kagawad Christopher Hadap of this town, who served as guide and caretaker of the suspects’ vehicles, was also arrested.

They suspects, along with the pieces of evidence, are presently under the custody of Matnog Municipal Police Station.

PNP Director General Bato dela Rosa, who is currently in the region, personally attended the press conference regarding the issue, along with Regional Director Chief Supt. Melvin Buenafe.
