Alleged anomalous power contract in Catanduanes probed

VIRAC, Catanduanes, September 5, 2016 (Bicol Standard) -- The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Catanduanes led by Energy Committee Chairman Provincial Board Member Natalio Popa, Jr. has started its investigation regarding the alleged anomalous contract between the First Catanduanes Electric Cooperative, Inc. (Ficelco) and Sunwest Electric and Water Co. (Suweco).

Catanduanes Sangguniang Panlalawigan session
This is according to a statement by Vice-Gov. Shirley Araojo Abundo called "Addressing the Power Crisis in Catanduanes" on Facebook.

Abundo said, however, that PBM Popa was unable to obtain a copy of said contract.

"Ficelco and Suweco both pointed out the so-called sensitivity and confidentiality clause na umano'y nakapaloob sa kontrata kaya hindi nila mapagbibigyan ang ating kahilingan."

"Ficelco and Suweco both pointed out the so-called sensitivity and confidentiality clause na umano'y nakapaloob sa kontrata kaya hindi nila mapagbibigyan ang ating kahilingan," she stated.

Regardless of said stumbling block, Abundo assured Catandunganons that their work will continue.

"Sa lalong madaling panahon ay makukuha natin ang kopya ng kontrata mula mismo sa Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC)."

She added that in the previous session, they asked Ficelco to explain the worsening problem in the power service in the island province.

"Bagaman hindi nagbigay ng eksaktong pangako ang Ficelco, sinabi nilang gagawin nila ang lahat upang maresolba ang ating problema, sa lalong madaling panahon."

"Inyo pong sundan ang ating ginagawang mga hakbang para sa power crisis mayroon tayo sa Catanduanes," she concluded.
