Masbate aims to be cigarette smoke-free

MASBATE CITY, August 16, 2016 (Bicol Standard) -- The Masbate Provincial Tobacco Control Network was launched today in a bid to make the island province cigarette smoke-free like the City of Davao.

The network is an alliance of agencies that will work to curb the consumption of cigarettes in the island province.

According to Provincial Health Officer Clemente Hector Bajar, this network will be the "eyes and ears" of the government in enforcing the implementation of the law against those who manufacture and sell cigarettes, along with those who violate the Graphic Health Warnings Law.

Smoking, per the Department of Health, is the cause of 34% of chronic diseases in the Philippines.
