Bicol short film wins CCP Gawad Alternatibo prize

NAGA CITY, August 13, 2016 (Bicol Standard) – A 15-minute Bicol film “An Kapinunan kan mga Alon sa Danaw” was awarded Best Regional Entry in the 28th Gawad CCP Para Sa Alternatibong Pelikula At Video (Gawad Alternatibo).

An Kapinunan kan mga Alon sa Danaw

An Kapinunan kan mga Alon sa Danaw (Where the Lake's Ripples Begin), is the fourth directorial work of Jenn Romano, a young regional filmmaker who graduated from Ateneo de Naga University. Romano co-produced it with the visual artist and photographer Gerard Jan Asay who also served as one of the film’s cinematographers.

The film was shot entirely at Buhi, Camarines Sur where the film’s inspiration came from. It tells the story of El and Ira who are caught up with their past, alongside the tragedies of some legends in Buhi.

“The cast members of An Kapinunan kan mga Alon sa Danaw are not professional actors, they are merely lovers of the craft,” the film’s information sheet reveals. The film features Bernice Paita and Jia Dollano, both graduates of Ateneo de Naga University. The film’s crew are purely made up of Naguenos and Buhinons, they added.

An Kapinunan kan mga Alon sa Danaw was screened at the Sinag Maynila 2016 where it also won as a runner-up, prior to receiving the CCP prize.
