NAGA CITY, July 13, 2016 (Bicol Standard)—Five police officers in this city are subject of an on-going investigation for their alleged involvement as protectors of those in the illegal drug trade.

This was confirmed by SPO2 Toby Bongon, Naga City Police Office Information Officer in an interview this morning.

Bongon, however, refused to divulge the identities of the cops so as not to pre-empt the on-going inquiry.

In a separate interview, Chief Supt. Melvin Ramon G. Buenafe, Regional Director of the Bicol PNP admitted that there are really cops whose names have been repeatedly mentioned by the drug surrenderees.

"Mahigit apat sila. Marami pang iba. Kahit kabaro iimbestigahan natin" (There are more than four of them. There are many others. We will investigate them even if they are one of us), Buenafe told the media.

"Hawak ko na ang listahan" (I already have the list), he added, while begging off to reveal the names.

Buenafe said he will send a message to the cops on the list to report to Camp Simeon Ola in Legazpi City this week to give them the opportunity to explain their side.

Meanwhile, Chief Inspector Ronnie Fabia of the Camarines Sur Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said they intentionally did not inform the Naga City Police Office about their One Time Big Time raid at Sagrada Familia (Isla Sison), Barangay Penafrancia. This was for fear that information about the operation would leak.

He added that the intelligence community forewarned them that several local cops are protectors of drug dealers and users.
