Sorsogon mayor may face raps for violation of RH law — DOH
|Sorsogon City Mayor Sally Lee|
As of the time of this writing, a case is already being prepared against the mayor, said Department of Health Director for Family Health Office Junice Melgar during the launch of the 2nd Popularized Report on the implementation of Republic Act 10354, the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act of 2012.
Melgar added that as early as February last year, family planning had been banned in Sorsogon because of the said EO.
"Family planning commodities were withdrawn while services were stopped arbitrarily,” Melgar said.
The case will "make the mayor accountable for gross violation of the RH law."
Lee's Order reads: “The State recognizes the sanctity of family life and shall protect and strengthen the family as a basic autonomous social institution. It shall equally protect the life of the mother and the life of the unborn from conception. The natural and primary right and duty of parents in the rearing of the youth for civic efficiency and the development of moral character shall receive the support of the Government.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Lee could not be contacted for her take on the issue as of press time.
