Alert Level 1 up over Bulusan Volcano

SORSOGON CITY, June 16, 2016 (Bicol Standard) – Alert Level 1 (abnormal) remains over Bulusan Volcano, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) announced Thursday morning.

During the past 24 hours, Bulusan Volcano’s seismic monitoring network recorded two volcanic earthquakes. Weak emission of white steam plumes that rose up to 100 meters and drifted towards northwest was also observed.

This, Phivolcs said in its advisory, "indicates that hydrothermal processes are underway beneath the volcano that may lead to more steam-driven eruptions."

“The local government units and the public are reminded that entry to the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the possibility of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions,” the advisory continues.

PHIVOLCS continues to closely monitor Bulusan Volcano’s condition.
