Man buried alive in alleged illegal quarry site in Donsol

DONSOL, Sorsogon (BICOLSTANDARD.COM) --Doctors at the Donsol District Hospital have declared a man dead after he was buried alive by soil that eroded into his truck at Sitio Pinaric, Brgy. Ogod at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The victim, identified as Salvador Cadag y Mirabuna, 40 years old, married, a driver, and a resident of this town, had been driving a truck owned by Rolando Magtarayo y Badilla, of Brgy. Rawis, this town.

According to the investigators, Cadag noticed the soil eroding next to where the truck was parked.

In an effort to save the vehicle, he ignited the engine. But before he was able to drive the vehicle away, the soil eroded into his truck, burying him.

He was also hit by a tree that was toppled down by the erosion.

Residents of the area, along with the local police, tried to save Cadag who was trapped inside the vehicle.

He was rushed to the Donsol District Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

Reports gathered by the BICOL STANDARD indicate that property owners adjacent to the land that eroded have long been complaining of alleged illegal quarrying activities. There are also allegations that it has no quarrying permit.

Earlier, another person had his leg cut off because of erosion from the same area.
