BFAR warns against eating puffer fish

NAGA CITY, June 22, 2016 (Bicol Standard) -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Office in Bicol has reiterated its warning against the catching and eating of puffer fish locally known as biya, butete, and tikong.

This warning was issued after two children died and seven fell ill in the towns of Siruma and Calabanga on June 8 and 20.

"Sabot mi po an pagtios pero sana po dae ta isaalang-alang an satong buhay sa pagsira kaini nin 1 sanang beses," Nonie P. Enolva, BFAR-Bicol Marine Fisheries Resources Management Section chief said.
