Albay police officer gets medal for neutralizing holdupper cop

Police Chief Supt. Augusto M. Marquez, Jr., Regional Director of the Police Regional Office Bicol personally awarded the Medalya ng Kagalingan (Merit Medal) to P01 Milgar Nocos.

It would be recalled that Nocos neutralized the robber identified as PO2 Ronnie Sandrino. He recovered the latter's weapon and money amounting to P11,061.00 stolen from a branch of a courier service.

Marquez congratulated Nocos for his "courageous and fearless act of enforcing the law thus earning credit and honor for himself and his unit worthy of emulation by his peers in the Philippine National Police organization."

In a separate report, Zagitzit News FM noted that financial problems possibly pushed PO2 Sandrino to commit the crime.

Sandrino, a member of the Pilar Municipal Police Station in Sorsogon, was found to have been buried in debt because of his alleged keen interest in cockfighting, the same report indicated.

Prior to the hold-up incident, he even dropped by Camp Simeon Ola to follow-up on an application for a loan, which was disapproved. (With report from Zagitzit News FM)
