Suspect in the murder of Jeff Villafuerte found dead

NAGA CITY – One of the principal suspects in the murder of Jeffrey Villafuerte, identified as Manuel “Awe” Rey was found dead inside the comfort room of the Reception and Diagnostic Dorm, at the District Jail of the BJMP office at Barangay Del Rosario here.

In an interview, the BJMP personnel told the media that at around 1:30 in the afternoon (May 23) the lifeless body of Rey was discovered hanging inside the comfort room.

BJMP officials said Awe Rey used a belt when he allegedly committed suicide.

The head of the BJMP instructed their personnel to rush the body of Awe Rey to the nearest hospital. However, Rey was pronounced dead on arrival.

Investigators from the Naga City Police Office declared that when they arrived in at the BJMP they did not see the lifeless body of Rey while his body was still hanging inside the comfort room.

It will be recalled that Manuel “Awe” Rey together with his twin brother Eusebio “Abong” Rey were both implicated in the murder of Jeffrey Villafuerte on March 2, 2015, inside the Camarines Sur Cockpit Arena at Milaor, Camarines Sur.

Five days after the incident, Awe Rey voluntarily surrendered to the local authorities.

Since June 3, 2015 he has been detained at the Naga City BJMP while the trial for the murder charge is being heard by the Regional Trial Court (RTC).

Meanwhile, the other suspect, Abong Rey is still at large.

Villafuerte was the son of ex-punong barangay Jojo Villafuerte.

He suffered four gunshot wounds, all of which were fatal.--BICOLSTANDARD.COM
