Cop shoots Sorsogon's No. 1 most wanted person while escaping

A police officer shot Sorsogon's number 1 provincial most wanted person who tried to escape while police officers were bringing him to court.

Rushed to the Sorsogon Provincial Hospital where he is now under tight guard by the police while recuperating was Antonio Gamis, 47, a resident of Barangay Calmayog, Juban, Sorsogon, who is facing cases for three counts of rape in violation of Republic Act 7610.

A report from the Philippine National Police Sorsogon Provincial Office to Chief Supt. Augusto M. Marquez Jr., PNP Bicol regional director, based in Camp Gen. Simeon A. Ola here, said Gamis was arrested on Sunday in Juban and was being escorted to the Bulwagan ng Katarungan in Sorsogon City on Tuesday when he ran with handcuffs on.

The suspect reportedly sped away to the direction of Barangay Bitan-o and was already at a distance, forcing PO3 Albert Duave to shoot him -- hitting his left thigh. (PNA)
