NFA Bicol assures rice sufficiency

NAGA CITY—The National Food Authority Regional Office 5 has given assurance that it has enough supply of rice amid growing concerns that stocks are inadequate due to El Nino.

Nora Follosco
Acting General Manager Nora Follosco said the Bicol regional office has augmented its supply to around 90,000 sacks of NFA rice for the first quarter of 2016. This is in addition to its current rice inventory, which stands at around 50,000 sacks. Such supply, she added, may last the region up to the end of the year.

NFA rice continues to be sold at prices between P27 to 32 per kilo.

Earlier this month, the NFA national office announced that it procured some 750,000 metric tons of rice as emergency buffer stock.

Around 250,000 metric tons are expected to arrive in November and Decemeber, while 500 metric tons will be delivered early in 2016.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
