Giant 'lapu-lapu' caught off Masbate

A giant grouper fish measuring two meters and weighing a hundred kilos was caught off Masbate on Friday by fisherman Jovannie Alburo, The Freeman reported today.

The giant grouper fish, known locally as "lapu-lapu," "pugapo" or "baraka" is said to be the largest bony fish found in coral reefs.

It is tagged by the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List Status as vulnerable, or likely to become endangered unless the circumstances threatening its survival and reproduction improve.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
