Nagueña joins Ms. PH-USA

NAGA CITY—A Nagueña is among the contestants in the Miss Philippines-USA 2015 beauty pageant.

Amelia "Nay-Nay" Castillo Fulgentes
Amelia Rosanna Castillo Fulgentes, who is fondly called “Nay-Nay” by her family and friends, is the first Naguena to join the pageant.

Born in Naga City, she is a daughter of Tomas “Kayong” Fulgentes Jr. and Monica “Onie” Castillo-Fulgentes. She is the eldest in a brood of four, with three brothers, Tom-Tom, Gerry and Joachim. She stayed in Tabuco, Liboton and Magsaysay in Naga City before moving to the United States when she was seven years old, her mother said in an interview by BICOL STANDARD.

Definitely more than just a pretty face, Nay-Nay is a star athlete, having participated in an impressive variety of sports, from judo to wrestling to swimming and jiu-jitsu.

Currently, she is a National Senior Champ in judo, training at the Olympic Training Center as she represents the country in various international competitions. She is ranked 3rd at 57 kgs in the USA Senior Female Roster, and was previously in the top spot in the USA Female Juvenile Judo Roster.

She has also trained with world-renowned Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Jean Jacques Machado.

Besides sports, she is also into Marketing, and is presently finishing her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Despite her laurels and the promise she holds for a bright future, Nay-Nay remains humble and maintains a close relationship with her family both in the Philippines and the Unites States.

Exposed to a multicultural, multi-faceted society, she yearns to further discover her Filipino roots and give back to her home country.

“She is definitely a proud Nagueña,” her mother said, beaming.

Voting is open until July 11.
