2 Bicolano lawyers at The Hague

Two young Bicolano lawyers are among the top legal minds at The Hague in the Netherlands at the arbitration hearing for the Philippine claim over parts of the West Philippine Sea: Atty. Graciela Base (left) from Cabusao, Camarines Sur, notched the fifth place in the 2012 Bar Examinations, and is Associate Solicitor III at the Office of the Solicitor General, and Atty. Melbourne Pana (right), of Pili, Camarines Sur, Associate Solicitor II and Chief of Staff of Solicitor-General Florin Hilbay.

Also part of the powerhouse Philippine delegation from the executive, legislative, and judicial branches are Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, Senate President Frank Drilon, House Speaker Sonny Belmonte, Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario, Supreme Court Justices Antonio Carpio and Francis Jardeleza, Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin and retired Gen. Emmanuel Bautista.

Earlier, Hilbay said that the Philippine delegation is confident that its position is in line with the principles of the United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
