Sorsogon all set for pili fest
"Pili Festival is already a word and history in the Bicol Region. Its unique presentation of different events would definitely mark the enormous culture and traditions of the city. A festival of Abundance, Generosity, Healthy Life, Peace and Unity fully packed with spectacular entertainment will unfold its new chapter,” Mayor Sally A. Lee remarked.

On June 22, the festival will formally commence with a mass, and the Pamarahaw Fiesta Fesitval. An opening program, which will be graced by the presence of Mayor Lee, Hon. Evelina “Nanay” Escudero, Department of Tourism (DOT) Regional Director Nini O. Ravanilla, Provincial Administrator Bobet Lee Rodrigueza, and Inigo Destacamento, will be held in the morning. Also scheduled on the same date are the Media Olympics, Tambor Trumpa Martsa Musika Grand Parade, Street Dance Competition and Philippine Acrobatic Show.
The rest of the Pili Festival is chock-full of activities for everyone: For starters, it will test the pili-cracking skills of locals with the Tiriladan sa Tinampo at the Rompeolas. Pet lovers will get a kick out of the Dog Grooming Show at Capitol Park while shopaholics and foodies will get delight in exquisite finds at the Festival Trade Fair and Culinary Food Expo. For sports enthusiasts, there is the Table Tennis Competition, Chess Tournament, Shooting Competition, and the Billiard Tournament while audiophiles will sing and dance along with the participants at the Piling-Piling Boses, City Idol, Songwriting and Interpretation competitions and Kantalikasan Media Concert.
Among the other highlights of the celebration are the Color Run, First Pili Fest Motorcycle Fun Drive and Motor Bike Show, Interfaith Walk for Healing, Rampa Fashion Show, Fluvial-Naval Procession, and Pili Festival Music Kasiyahan.
The Pili Festival celebrates the pili, which supports the livelihood of many Sorsoganons. Although the growing of pili is popular in the other provinces of Bicol, it is Sorsogon which has the largest land area devoted to pili farming. –BICOLSTANDARD.COM
