Mount Bulusan explodes anew

SORSOGON CITY—Bulusan Volcano ejected ash at 2:55 p.m. today in another steam-driven explosion, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

The 1.5 kilometer-high grayish ash plume drifted towards the west-southwest.

A low-level distended ash cloud on the upper northwest flank, possibly from a short pyroclastic flow, was also observed, the Phivolcs report said.

Alert Level 1 (abnormal) status remains over Bulusan Volcano.

Thus, the local government units and the public are reminded that entry to the 4-kilometer radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is strictly prohibited due to the possibility of sudden and hazardous steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, Phivolcs cautioned.
