Gonzalez backs Salceda's bid for Albay representative

Gov. Joey Salceda and Cong. Fernando Gonzalez

The political opponent of Albay Governor Joey Salceda in the gubernatorial race eight years ago is strongly supporting his congressional bid in the 2016 elections.

Rep. Fernando Gonzalez of the third district of Albay said Salceda’s bid for congressional post in the second district of Albay in the 2016 polls is a positive development as the outgoing governor will be contributing a lot for tourism and economic development of Albay’s second congressional district, which will also benefit the City of Legazpi.

“Governor Joey Salceda’s plan to run is good and heaven for the second district of Albay because he could help Mayor Noel Rosal to even develop the city into a metropolis,” Gonzalez said.

He acknowledged the good leadership of Salceda despite political differences they been through eight years ago.

Salceda fought against Gonzalez in the 2007 gubernatorial election after finishing his three-term post in Congress under the helm of former president now-Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

But the two political kingpins under the wing of Liberal Party set aside political differences in pursuit of economic development of the province.

According to Gonalez, Salceda contributed a lot for tourism and economic development of Albay and the City of Legazpi is one of the most benefited as capital of Albay province where the bulk of tourists disembark and stay for shopping galore.

“Joey contributed a lot in Legazpi City's development that’s why he is a good partner with Mayor Noel to team up as visionary and energetic mayor of Legazpi,” the lawmaker said.

Though Gonzalez is supporting the candidacy of Salceda, he asked the outgoing top official of Albay not to disturb the reelection bid of Rosal in the 2016 local election.

“If Joey wins as representative of the 2nd District), Albay will be the best province in the country because as economic technocrat, he could pursue more remarkable projects for the development of the province, provided he will not disturb the re-election of Mayor Noel Rosal,” Gonzalez said.

“They should work together and settle whatever differences they have because Noel and Joey are a good team. Noel is the best mayor to continue and they should work together for more progress of Albay,” he added.--by Rhaydz Barcia (PNA)
