Earlier today, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) announced that its seismic monitoring network detected five (5) volcanic earthquakes during the past 24 hours.

Weak emissions of white steam plumes that drifted and crept downslope towards southwest were also observed.

Precise leveling surveys conducted from May 5 to May 14, 2015 indicate very slight inflation of the volcano’s edifice relative to the March 2015 surveys, the advisory added.

Bulusan Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, Phivolcs said.

The provincial government of Sorsogon led by Provincial Administrator Robert Lee Rodrigueza has already dispatched a team to check on the residents of Juban and Casiguran.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office of Sorsogon assured locals that it is monitoring the situation and maintaining communication with the mayors of the affected areas.—Report from Edgar Tumangan, BICOL STANDARD Sorsogon
