"If they don't pay up," Salceda stated, "we will ask DENR to impound the vessel and auction it."

Last Monday, the Philippine Coast Guard said they received a report that MV Ocean 03 "hit the marine environment at the area while maneuvering enroute to Albay Gulf."

The vessel has since been pulled from its agrounding site and maneuvered northeast of Legazpi Port, the Coast Guard announced.

Due to the incident, the city agriculture office here sent a letter to the owner of the vessel, ANH TV Shipping, demanding for P4 million in payment for the destruction, and to cover the costs of the rehabilitation of the reef.

Salceda, meanwhile, revealed that he received a message from the Bureau of Customs Office in Legazpi City asking for a copy of the claim for damages agains MV Ocean 03.

Said claim, BOC Legazpi said, will give them the basis to hold the ship's clearance to leave the area.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
