3 wedding guests drown in Bicol River

GAINZA, Camarines Sur--Three persons have been confirmed dead after the banca they boarded capsized in the Bicol River. Three other passengers were on the vessel apart from the three who drowned.

The accident took place between Barangay Malbong, Gainza town and Barangay Mangayawan, Canaman town said police. 

According to the investigator, the passengers boarded the vessel in Barangay Malbong to attend a wedding ceremony in Barangay Mangayawan, Canaman.  

However, the packed banca, which did not have an outrigger (katig), became out of balance and overturned. 

The casualties were identified as Ann Serena Nicole San Jose, 15, a resident of San Isidro, Sta. Rita, Pampanga; Ma. Elvira Flores, 18, a resident of Quezon City; and  Rushglenn Olicia, 8 , and a resident of Holy Spirit, Quezon City.

Search and rescue operations were immediately undertaken, but the passengers were only located 30 minutes after the incident. 

Gainza Municipal Police said that the three passengers were brought to the Bicol Medical Center (BMC) and St. John Hospital, sa Naga City, but were declared dead on arrival.
