Ex-Mayor Yu to retake Calabanga in 2016?

NAGA CITY— “I will surely and willingly give way to Madam Evelyn Yu if she tells me that she wants to run for mayor,” Mayor Ed Severo told BICOL STANDARD when asked about the upcoming elections and rumors that Yu is planning to make a political comeback in the 2016 elections.

Ex-Mayor Evelyn Yu

“I am more than 100 percent behind the rumored candidacy of former Mayor Evelyn Yu,” Severo said.

Yu, a former 3-term chief executive of this town, and a political ally of Severo, is reportedly being groomed to run for the top post in this town by the same group that supported the incumbent mayor.

In the same interview, Severo said that earlier this year, his family had been enticing him to leave politics, and concentrate instead on their business.

“Madam Evelyn’s family and my family are very close political allies. I do not foresee any problem in case she decides to run again for mayor. Our group is very much intact and willing to extend whatever political support she needs to win in the next polls. We are just waiting for her green light,” he revealed.

He stressed, however, that he will only give way to Yu, and not to other candidates.

Former Mayor Yu was also behind Severo’s candidacy of Severo in the 2013 local elections.

Prior to his assumption to the mayoralty post, Severo was the town administrator during Yu’s three-term incumbency.

As this developed, Severo’s local political rivals have showed reluctance in revealing their line-up, upon learning that Yu would be slugging it out for mayor instead of him.

Insiders say that in case Yu decides to run for mayor again, her group is rooting for Liga ng Mga Barangay President Victor De Villa to be her running mate.

As of press time, Yu could not yet be contacted for her comments.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
