Surprise inspection yields drugs, cash in Masbate detention cells

MASBATE CITY—The Philippine National Police has launched a probe after a surprise inspection in the Masbate Police Provincial Office Holding Center yielded drugs, drug paraphernalia, a cellular phone, and cash.

The jail guards are already being investigated, said the Police Regional Office.

The inspection of the detention cells located inside Camp Bonny Serrano, Brgy. Ibingay was conducted at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 4.

It was led by joint elements of Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Division (PIDMD), Police Intelligence Branch (PIB), and the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC), all of Masbate Provincial Office.  

From detention cell number 1 were recovered:  Php17,500 in cash, two small sachets containing suspected “shabu,” and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, from detention cell number 2 were found: Php10,050 in cash, one unit of Samsung cellular phone, and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Police identified the occupants of said holding center as Lito Vasquez and Garry Franco. 

Vasquez is being held after undergoing inquest proceedings on March 5, 2015. Franco, on the other hand, is under custody after he faced inquest proceedings on March 28, 2015.

Both are facing cases for allegedly violating Republic Act 9165 (Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002) and Republic Act 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms Law).—BICOLSTANDARD. Pirming enot. Pirming bago.
