NAGA CITY –“We are still in a state of shock."

This was the statement made today (April 25) by 24 Oras- Bicol reporter Michael "Mike" Biando over the decision of the GMA network to pull the plug of the local Bicolano news production of the Kapuso network.

"We were only informed right after the newscast yesterday," he explained.

"Even our anchorman, Elmer Caseles was surprised when our station manager announced that yesterday’s telecast of 24 Oras Bikol, was our last,” Biando added.

"He said that since last week, they had been hearing unconfirmed information that the early afternoon newscast would fold up for reasons not  discussed to them by the management," Biando said.

He also told BICOLSTANDARD.COM that representatives from the Manila office will be coming here on Tuesday (April 28) to discuss the fate of the members of the news team.

"We were informed that the employees will be offered a special package to cover for their separation from their jobs," said Biando.

Meanwhile, apart from Biando, other members of the news team also confirmed that they had been severed from their news assignments since Friday.

The company has also shut down the local productions of its regional offices in Cagayan de Oro City, Bacolod City, and Ilocos.
.
An employee of the local GMA network, who requested not to be named, said that the reason for the closing down of said afternoon newscast is to “streamline its programs and manpower to ensure competitiveness.”

Meanwhile, anchorman Elmer Caseles of 24a Oras Bicol could not be reached at press time for his reaction regarding this matter.(BICOLSTANDARD.COM) Pirmeng enot. Pirmeng bago.
