Rep. Leni Robredo leads International Women’s Day Celebration
"We would like to continue empowering the women in the district to become more economically independent so that they can take full advantage of the opportunities both the government and private enterprise can provide." She said during her welcome address to over a thousand participants at the JMR Coliseum.
With the theme "2loy-2loy Na Asenso Sa Tercer Distrito" it promoted her office’s commitment to address the alarming poverty and unemployment rate in her district.
Local government officials and stakeholders from various sectors including national government agencies and chambers of commerce also took part in the occasion that showcased products made by women who underwent skills and entrepreneurship trainings.
Various local and international companies and agencies also participated in a Jobs Fair that has seen a large number of applicants during the two day activity.
Also, the 242 graduates of the eight courses by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority specialized program had their graduation and was awarded with their respective starter kits.
Various sectors from both private and government sectors also gave lectures on livelihood, business ideas and services given by renowned speakers.
The main highlight was the keynote address delivered by Bailinda Eman of the Gawad Kalinga who shared her insights on the greater role of livelihood programs if properly implemented can change lives.
Despite being centered on the gains and achievements of women, the celebration also highlighted the importance of gender equality and cooperation. Jobs fair and entrepreneurship camps that catered to everyone were integrated into the event.--by Allan Rey Camata
