Friendship Bridge to link Catanduanes to mainland Bicol

The Regional Development Council for Bicol headed by Governor Joey Sarte Salceda has approved for endorsement to the national government the construction of the Friendship Bridge that will connect the island-province of Catanduanes to mainland Bicol through Camarines Sur province.

The project will be built from the Rugos Point in Caramoan, Camarines Sur, to Barangay Tibang in San Andres, Catanduanes.

It is part of the inter-connectivity project of the administration of the President Benigno S. Aquino III towards the speedy development of this part of the region and its neighboring areas.

Catanduanes Governor Cely Wong profusely thanked the RDC for its approval to endorse the project, which has long been dreamed of by the Catanduanes residents.

The council also discussed the various ambitious projects of the Bicol Region, which include an international airport in Pandan, Catanduanes; Camarines Norte International Port in Jose Panganiban and Daet-Naga Freeway.

Salceda also cited the QueBEx Way or Quezon Bicol Express Way, modernization of the railway system and many others.

He asked the provinces without proposed projects yet as part of Luzon Plan 45 that they still have a chance to submit these to the National Economic Development Authority-Bicol, which is the secretariat of the RDC Bicol.

The RDC-Bicol head advised the local government executives spend efforts to make feasibility studies for their projects as these will pay off.

"It might take long but you can realize the projects you want done in your areas for the benefit of your constituents," Salceda said, giving example the feasibility studies exhaustively done by the Province of Albay.(PNA)
