The week-long celebration begins with a Penitential Walk on March 21, 5:00 a.m. from the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral grounds to the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Monastery (Naga City).
Tirona will give several points for reflection before the Walk while confession will be made available at the end point. According to the circular, plenary indulgence shall be given provided that the following requirements are met:
prayers for the Supreme Pontiff’s intentions
According to Teresa 500 Chairman Fr. Wilmer Joseph Tria, the Walk is “a meditative procession [as it is] in keeping with the spirit of the Lenten season”. He further said that “the visit of Pope Francis encourages participation in activities that lead to deeper faith in the Lord”. Hence, it is hoped that the Walk “will be an opportunity to receive Christ fully, as [one] recalls the Lord’s Passion, death and resurrection”.
Following the Walk is a Seminar on Prayer slated on March 25 at the Big Hall of the Basilica Minore de Peñafrancia. Carmelite priest Fr. Alex Collera shall give the talk while the Caceres Carmelite prelate is scheduled to preside over the Eucharistic celebration that ends the activity by noon.
On St. Teresa’s birth date, March 28, Archbishop Tirona will celebrate two Masses in honor of the occasion: at 6:30 a.m. at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Monastery in Naga City; and at 9:00 a.m. at the Parish and Shrine of St. Teresa of Avila in San Vicente, Baao.
Capping the week-long celebration is a musical on the Life of Teresa of Avila on March 29 at the Unibersidad de Sta. Isabel (USI) Auditorium at 6:00 p.m.
