RD Deona blames rebels for spate of shootings

LEGAZPI CITY—“I have directed the PNP Provincial Director of Sorsogon to do something about it.”
This was the statement provided to BICOL STANDARD by PNP Regional Director Chief Superintendent Victor Deona, when sought for his comment regarding the series of killings in the province of Sorsogon since last year.
It will be recalled that last year, Deona attributed the rise in the number of murder incidents in the said province to the perpetrated by the members of the New People’s Army (NPA).
Meanwhile, is the same statement today, the Regional PNP Chief added that he will send an augmentation troops to help address the problem.
“We are doing this in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines”, he said
Furthermore, Deona admitted that most of the criminal incidents that have been reported lately were insurgency related.
As this developed, the Provincial Police Office of Sorsogon also attributed the increase in criminal incidents in the said province due to the proliferation of loose firearms.
The reports gathered here say that for the month of February alone, at least five deaths have been recorded, allegedly perpetrated by armed men whose identity are still known.
Interviewed by the media, PSupt Benard Banac, Police Provncial Director of Sorsogon admitted that part of their campaign against criminal elements is to establish more check points that could help deter persons with criminal minds from carrying loose firearms.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
