Bomb scare rocks Naga City school

NAGA CITY—Students, faculty, and staff of the Don Manuel Abella Elementary School were evacuated this morning after members of the administration received text threats from an unidentified sender.

Two teachers, according to initial reports, each received a text message saying that the school will be blown up by a bomb planted inside the school premises.

Police who were informed of the incident immediately cordoned the area.

Members of the Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) searched the school grounds for explosives with the aid of bomb sniffing dogs from the canine unit.

Teams from the Bureau of Fire Protection and  the Red Cross also responded to the bomb threat incident.

Meanwhile, students and the school staff were made to transfer to the covered court of Barangay Cararayan, while the police checked the school premises for explosives.

The road near the school was likewise closed to traffic.

Classes were later suspended in said public school, as well as in the nearby Cararayan High School.

Naga City Police Officer-in-Charge Supt. Elcid Roldan oversaw the processing of the scene.

At 12:30 in the afternoon, police declared the bomb threat a mere hoax. —With report from Oscar Esmenda and Boyet Paderes BICOLSTANDARD.COM
