22 educ aid applicants collapse; DSWD swarmed

LEGAZPI CITY—There was a sea of humanity at Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office yesterday as last-minute applicants tried to beat the the registration deadline for the agency’s educational assistance covering the second semester for school year 2014-2015.

More or less 3,400 beneficiaries were enlisted and scheduled for assessment from February 3 to
March 31 during the registration, which started from 6am-6pm.

About 22 student-applicants were reported to have collapsed due to exhaustion and the sweltering heat.

Accepted applicants will receive outright a minimum of Php 2,000 depending on the assessment of the social worker.

Notwithstanding the long lines, DPWH Regional Director Arnel Garcia assured the public that all were given a schedule.

He said: “Lahat ng pumila kahapon ay nabigyan ng schedule for interview para sa educational assistance.”

DSWD expects 150 beneficiaries scheduled for assessment daily.

DSWD Field Office 5 caters to applicants coming from the province of Albay and from the municipalities of Pilar and Donsol. Other applicants can go directly to its satellite offices in the following provinces:

Masbate-G/F Balai Valencia, Ibanez St., Masbate City
Camarines Sur- Topaz St., Jacob Ext., Naga City
Camarines Norte – 3/F LJR Bldg., J. Lukban Ext. , Brgy. 3, Daet, Camarines Norte; Catandunes- Brgy. Constantino, Virac, Catanduanes
Sorsogon- Lee Bldg., Quezon St., Polvorista, Sorsogon City.
