House, Senate agree to postpone SK polls

NAGA CITY—The House and Senate panels have agreed to postpone the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections.

This was confirmed by Camarines Sur 5th District Rep. Salvio Fortuno in an interview with BICOL STANDARD this afternoon.

Fortuno said that the SK elections is planned to be held simultaneously with the barangay elections in October 2016.

He added, however, that an amended bill will be fast-tracked with the following reforms: (1) the age bracket will be adjusted to 15 to 24, but only those from age 18-24 may be SK officers; and (2) candidates for SK officers must not be related by consanguinity within the first degree to any publicly-elected official.

As early as October 2014, Fortuno advised candidates to hold in abeyance their campaign activities and wait for announcements on the rescheduling of the polls.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
