In his message, Bongat underscored the bravery of the martyrs who continue to serve as sources of inspiration for Bicolanos today.

The Quince Martirers include Rev. Inocencio Herrera, Rev. Gabriel Prieto, Rev. Severino Diaz, Florendo Lerma, Manuel Abella, Domingo Abella, Camilo Jacob, Tomas Prieto, Macario Valentin, Mariano Melgarejo, Cornelio Mercado, Leon Hernandez, Ramon Abella, Mariano Arana, and Mariano Ordenanza.

Eleven of the fifteen martyrs were executed by musketry on January 4, 1897 in Luneta where Jose Rizal was shot five days earlier. The rest died in prison or in exile.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
