NOT RESIGNING | Provincial Legal Officer insists Masbate Gov. innocent of plunder

MASBATE—Atty. Michael C. Marcaida has clarified rumors that he has thrown in the towel as legal officer of this province.

This is amid speculations and social media gossip that the lawyer is resigning from his position after the Office of the Ombudsman announced last week that it will be filing plunder and graft charges against former solon and now governor Rizalina Seachon-Lanete .

Marcaida posted this afternoon on Facebook: "There are reports on social media that i already resigned or is intending to resign as provincial legal officer of the province.

To make things clear, I did not resign and i am not intending to resign from my post."

He added:  "i believe that our governor is innocent. The complaint for plunder was maliciously filed as it lacks necessary evidence to prove probable cause. Gov Dayan delivered was s due to her people."

Marcaida punctuated his post with an emotional remark, which he expressed in Bicol: "Matindog ako sa kamatuodan kag sa tama. matindog ako sa akun Gobernador kay aram ko na pulitika ini na tanan. matindog ako sa akun gobernador sa interes san masbatenos kag sa pagbabag-o."

It will be recalled that Assistant Ombudsman Asryman Rafanan, in a press conference held last week, announced that charges of plunder and violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act are set to be filed anytime against Lanete for her alleged misuse of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) worth P112.29 million from 2007 to 2009.

The Ombudsman also accuses her of pocketing around P108M in kickbacks.—BICOLSTANDARD.COM
