(UPDATED) LTFRB OKs fare reduction in PUJs in Bicol


NAGA CITY—The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a P0.50 provisional fare decrease of Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJs) in the Bicol region during a hearing conducted at the LTFRB Regional Office

For the first 4 kilometers, the fare is now P7.50, from the previous P8.00.

In addition P1.40 will be charged per succeeding kilometer.

Drivers and operators are also ordered to observe the following directives:

(1) Children less than 1 meter in height shall be transported free of charge and those from 1 to 1.30 meters in height shall pay half fare. PUJ operators shall provide an adequate place in their motor vehicles the necessary markings for verifying the heights of the children passengers who are entitled to free or half fare pursuant to par. 11 of Memorandum Circular No. 2011-004, entitled "2011 Revised Terms and Conditions of CPC and Providing Penalties for Violation Thereof;"

(2) To grant qualified Senior Citizens, students, and persons with disabilities (PWD) utilizing their services for a fare equivalent to 20% pursuant to pars. 12 and 13 of Memorandum Circular No. 2011-004 entitled "2011 Revised Terms and Conditions of CPC and Providing Penalties in Violation Thereof;"

(3) Failure to observe the conditions set above shall be penalized under Joint Administrative Order No. 2014-01 (JAO) subject: "Revised Schedule of Fines and Penalties for Violation of Laws, Rules, and Regulations Governing Land Transportation."

The order will take effect immediately upon its publication in a newspaper of general circulation.

The petition for fare reduction in the minimum fare of PUJs in the Bicol region was filed by Quirico Candilosas, Jr. of Legazpi City against Alberto C. Darilay, NACIJTRA President, Naga City.

Previously, the LTFRB approved fare reduction in the Ilocos Region, Western Visayas, and Cagayan Valley. —BICOLSTANDARD.COM
